The last day of competition of the season started on sunday with 2016 last qualifying. The 11 drivers left as a pack for the 15 minutes session. Vartanyan was the first provisional pole-sitter as the sanctions for tracks limits started to be distributed. The young Russian got pushed out from the top by Dutch Richard Verschoor who posted a time of 1.44,466. Five lap times were cancelled and no one managed to catch the Red Bull Junior driver who took the last pole position of the season ahead of Alexander Vartanyan and Nikita Volegov. A very impressive performance from young driver Marta Garcia, signing her best qualifying position since her joining in the F4 Spanish Championship, sitting onto P4.
“We didn’t change the car even though yesterday the Qualifying did not went very well. I improved my driving and the car reacted well on that ! Got a great lap and that made us to be on pole position for the last race of the season”
“It is my best qualifying of the season, and I am satisfied with my improvement throughout the four rounds I have been competing this season in the F4 Spanish Championship. I will now focus on the race, it will be tough, but I will fight for a podium this afternoon”_ – **”We didn’t change the car even though yesterday the Qualifying did not went very well. The third race of the weekend and the last one of the season started with Richard Verschoor on pole position. Nikita had a very bad start dropping down to P6, allowing Marta Garcia to go up to P3. But in the second lap, the young girl got passed by Tuomas Tujula fighting for the Championship this weekend. His rival, Xavier Lloveras had an incident at the start with Elias Niksanen and had to come back in pits to change his car’s nose.
With 9 minutes + 1lap to go, Haapalainen made a succesful move over Danny Kroes and snatched P7 and then went on Volegov for P6 on Lap 11 of the final race of the season. HIs fellow country man Juuso Puhakka managed to find an opportunity over Marta Garcia and went for P5.
Richard Verschoor took the chequered flag of the last race of the season, putting and end to his amazing year in Formula 4. Alexander Vartanyan and Tuomas Tujula completed the podium and the overall classification of this maiden season of the F4 Spanish Championship certified by FIA.
