After the announcement of FA Racing joining the second-year-Spanish-Series, the F4 Spanish Championship certified by FIA welcomes a new team for 2017.
The Porteiro sons who raced in high level championships as World Series by Renault or GP2 Series, started a coaching career, with some young drivers who reached the pinacle of motorsport as Roberto Mehri who drove for Manor F1 team, or Carlos Munoz in Indycar.
Based on the idea that a driver’s strength is not only their speed, their method has always involved physical as well as mental training. Building on determination and leading them into pushing their limits. After 25 years in the field Porteiro Motorsport has excitedly taken on a new challenge, participating in the Spanish F4 championship certified by FIA in 2017.
Santiago Porteiro, Team Principal
«After all these years working in the US and reaching the maximum level besides F1 which is Indycar, it is very gratifying to come back to where it all started. For me, the F4 Spanish Championship is the perfect debut for young competitive drivers who want to step onto Formulas. This gives me the opportunity to lend my experience and help the young talents»
Porteiro Motorsport started their journey towards 2017 with a full week of testing in Valencia in December with their three cars.
Felix Porteiro, Sporting Director
«We are very happy with having the project turning into reality. The first laps of the car were thrilling and the icing on the cake was to have Roberto Mehri in the Tatuus-Abarth F4. We got a lot of feedback from his experience and it set the reference time for the drivers who tested with us later in that week. Now we are focusing into finalizing the signing of the drivers for next year and be ready to line-up a good set of contenders for the championship crown»
The team will start testing again in January, with all sights on the 2017 F4 Spanish Championship calendar to be published very soon.
