The F4 Spanish Championship certified by FIA stopped in France for the first time ever, to start the penultimate round of the season.

It is in Nogaro, in South West France, that the drivers started the 6th round of the year, in very uncertain skies.

Bent Viscaal (MP Motorsport) topped Free Practices, with a time of 1.26.597, but all the drivers were really close to each other for their first time on the track.

By the time Qualifying 1 started, the skies went even darker, putting a threat on the fifteen-minute session. However the field left in slicks and no rain came to mingle in the game.

Alexander Smolyar was the first driver to top the classification on the early laps. However, Bent Viscaal quickly disloged the Russian from his spot, as the Dutch is looking to be the stronger driver today on the French track.

Christian Lundgaard followed his teammate and placed his number 5 car in P2, with a 0.102 gap to Viscaal. While Alexander Smolyar took P3 with a 0.277 gap and Javier Gonzalez would be completed the second row in Race 1.

Lukas Dunner is proving those past weeks, that he can be a tough challenger for the podium as the 16-year old has again qualified onto P5.

There are only 15 points between Christian Lundgaard and Alexander Smolyar and Bent Viscaal can also snatch the title this season. Nikita Volegov and Javier Gonzalez are also technically in the race for the crown, but their task will be much more difficult.

Alexander Smolyar, SMP Racing

“Set-up of the car was very good. But I did some mistakes and I ended my session onto P3. Not the best qualifying. But it’s still possible to win tomorrow’s race”

Christian Lundgaard, MP Motorsport

“Today was challenging. In Qualifying, with new tires it was hard to know what to do. But 1-2 for MP Motorsport is quite positive. Lukas is not far behind so tomorrow races gonna be quite good. For the Championship it’s good for me to be in front of Smolyar, that’s the target. We are aiming for three wins. Tomorrow you’ll see me on the top. Twice”

Bent Viscaal, MP Motorsport

“Great day today, after the 2 FP, I knew I had the pace to compete with the best. So i’m glad with my first pole position !”

Tomorrow, the F4 Spanish Championship will start at 11.45 with Race 1 and Race 2 will be at 17.05.
